She was born in Las Vegas in 1956 and was raised and went to school in Las Vegas. She was very active in high school both sexually and in school projects. She was the head cheerleader, an accomplished dancer and after graduation attended the U. of Nevada majoring in theater. After graduating at 19, she performed in some theater projects, but decided to move to England where she stayed for three years working as a model. In 1979 that career got sidetracked due to accident with a coffee urn when hot coffee got spilled on her. She spent a couple of months in the hospital with some severe burns and scars. She honestly felt that she could never be naked in front of a man again.
She returned to the states and lived in New York and tried to get her acting career going but a series of promises and deals fell through, so she worked as a secretary. Through the man she was renting her apartment from, Roy Stewart, and also having an affair with she was introduced to the world of porn and at first thought it wasn’t for her and couldn’t do it. But he convinced her that with her acting resume and looks plus her love for sex, she could do it and do very well at it. With her English, Irish, Scots heritage she had a sparkling look to go along with and terrific body that came off very well on camera. So she decided to give it a try and it would turn out to be a life changing experience for Jane. But before she made her first film she did several live sex shows to see what the audience reactions would be. Needless to say they were all good. In 1980 Jane took on her new stage name, Veronica Hart, and made her debut in the film “Fascination”. What also worked for Veronica was that this was the time during the golden age where plot and story were as important to a film as the sex. Ms. Hart was an accomplished actress who could deliver lines and she was real when it came to sex scenes, she never faked it and that is backed up by her male co stars who reveled in her sexuality and realism.
After that first film Veronica Hart would go on to make a name for herself in films like “Amanda By Night”, “Wanda Whips Wall Street”, “Roomates”, “Ascent of Heather” and many other classic films. She would also win several Best actress awards along the way for her realistic and explosive performances. When she stopped performing in front of the camera in the mid 80′s she turned to directing films and would become one of the industry’s first female directors and also a much nominated one for films like “White Lightning”, “Taken”, Crime and Passion” and others. She also landed some mainstream roles playing the judge in “Boogie Nights” and a role in the hit film “Magnolia”. She also made a few TV appearances on shows like Six feet Under.
In recent years Veronica has remained behind the scenes but on occasion will take on a small non sex role in films. I guess semi retired would best describe Veronica Hart today, as she still keeps her finger in the adult pie so to speak. In addition to her nominations and awards she has received for her acting and directing, Ms. Hart is also a well deserving member of the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame and also the Legends of Erotica and the Hustler Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Today, at age 58, Veronica Hart still has that great look, great attitude and just as sexy as ever. She has a very active fan club on the web and just about every one of her classic films are now available on DVD for all of us to enjoy.
