The XXX parodies of old TV shows, movie classics, comic book super heroes continues to be a major part of the adult film world. It shows no signs of slowing down either as new productions are in the works and being shot as we speak. In 2013 there will be a number of new parodies coming to a video store near you. The latest one announced for a January 2013 release is DreamZone Entertainment’s release of “McGuyver XXX”.

As a writer and reviewer I have had the pleasure of reviewing all of these various parodies over the past few years from the time Will Ryder introduced us to “Not The Brady Bunch” to the recent Axel Braun production of “Superman vs. Spiderman” and everything in between since this genre took off. Like anything else there have been some parodies that were just not that good, slapped together in a few days trying to cash in on the popularity. On the other hand there have been a large number that have been big time award winners, big sellers and exceeded expectations. So good have some of these parodies been that they have even received accolades and features on mainstream TV shows, magazine articles and interviews. The perfection and detail that has gone into these parodies is sometimes beyond belief and other than the sex scenes, it’s hard to believe you are watching a parody.

With all that being said it got me to thinking. What would you, the adult fan, like to see done as a parody? What classic TV show, classic film or comic book character, superhero or not, like to see done that hasn’t been done as yet? The directors of these parody films Axel Braun, Will Ryder, Jordan Septo, Sinister X and others all read this blog, so let me know what parodies you’d like to see. Who knows you may give these talented directors some good ideas for future projects. Just leave your comments and ideas here at AAN and I’ll make sure the directors get your suggestions. I do know for a fact that they all have some great parodies on the drawing boards or in production, but you the fan, are an important part of the success of these films.

As for me, there is one comic book that I would love to see turned into a parody. It is ready made for the XXX treatment and was always popular with teens back in the day. I’m talking about “Archie”. Now that comic is perfect for a parody with Veronica, Betty, Jughead and all the other characters that made this comic book so popular. While the sexual hints were very subtle, even as teens we knew that there was more to the friendships than could be allowed. Now, in parody form, “Archie” would be the perfect comic book XXX parody.

With his penchant for detail and perfection Braun has another blockbuster on his hands as he continues to outdo himself. When he was here for our NightMoves Awards Show, he lmentioned a few things to me about future projects and all I can say is, “You all ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” The man is not only one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, but also one of the most creative, perfection personified directors in adult films. This meant auditioning and getting porn stars who were not only good sexually, but who could act and sing as well. Not an easy chore, but as I have found over the years, there are some extremely talented porn performers when it comes to having solid talent singing, dancing and acting.

Doing a porn parody of a classic musical film like Grease with the iconic lead characters of Sandy and Danny Zuko to be mirrored by adult performers is a challenge. But Braun and his penchant for detail and perfection loves these kinds of challenges and came up with the two performers, out of dozens who auditioned, that will have the lead roles in this musical film parody. They are up and coming starlet Penny Pax as Sandy and Seth Gamble as Tony. This will be a ground breaking, star making role for Ms. Pax, who won the role over more than a dozen other girls. Gamble has proven, with his role as Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars XXX”, he has the acting chops along with the looks and voice to handle the strong lead role of Danny.

In a day where we are blessed to have great parody directors like Braun, Will Ryder, Brad Armstrong, Jordan Septo and others, Axel just continues to raise the bar for everyone. From comic book super heroes to a musical parody of a classic film, there seems to be no genre he can’t parody to perfection. But those are only two for now. What there is yet come beyond the two I have talked about will literally blow your mind when they are announced. As successful as he has been in recent years, I have a feeling what Axel Braun and the other top directors have brought to the porn screen is just the tip of the iceberg. After 20 years of reviewing films and seeing the change and evolution that has taken place in adult films, I truly believe 2013 will be a year when the envelope is pushed harder and there will be some truly over the top productions that will raise the bar even higher. In addition other directors jumped on the popular genre bandwagon with their takes on TV show parodies both comedy and dramatic. Then along came the spoofs of comic book heroes. Axel Braun jumped in with both feet and brought us, Batman XXX, Superman XXX, Spider-Man XXX. Other directors jumped in and also began doing parodies of TV shows and then came parodies of the classic movies like “Rocky XXX”, “Saturday Night Fever XXX”, “Taxi Driver XXX”, “The Graduate XXX”, “The Rocki Whore Picture Show” and the recently released “Star Wars XXX” among the films that have gotten the parody treatment much to the delight of the industry and fans judging by the number of awards all these films have collected and the sales they have done.

Believe it or not, all of these directors Will Ryder, Axel Braun, Jordan Septo, Otto Bauer, Paul Thomas, General Stone, Lee Roy Myers and others who have tackled the parody genre are far from finished. There are a number of parodies in the TV, comic book and mainstream film area now either in pre production, post production, or in current production for release during the year. Knowing some of the titles being worked on, I, as a fan and a reviewer/critic cannot wait for some of these titles to be released.

This all got me to thinking what TV shows, comic book heroes or mainstream films would I love to see done as true parodies by these extremely talented directors? There are two mainstream classic films that I feel would be ripe for parody, “The Godfather” and “Some Like It Hot”. As for old TV shows “Gunsmoke” is one that jumps out. What really went on between Matt and Kitty? (Kylie Ireland would be perfect as Kitty). I’d also like to see from the comics “The Phantom” and for fun how about “Archie” and what really was going on with Betty and Veronica?

That’s just a few I’d love to see done. What’s your ideas for TV, movie and comic book parodies?

The need for music, the style of music, the overall sound of the music has come a long way from the early days. Because of copyright infringements and potential lawsuits, the music of these familiar themes had to be changed just enough to make them legal but to also make them familiar and as close to the original as possible. The leader in this area was a former musician turned porn director, Jeff Mullen, aka Will Ryder. jeff spent hours recreating not only the theme music for the Tv parodies, but all of the incidental music as well. From “The Brady BunchXXX” to “M*A*S*HXXX” to “RockyXXX”, which Jeff says was his biggest music challenge, and all his other parody films, Jeff’s talent as a musician and arranger gave his films and even more authentic feel and he continues to do terrific work musically with every release.

In addition to Jeff Mullen, other directors like Axel Braun, Brad Armstrong, Jordan Septo and others reached into their creative bag of musical tricks to come up with just the right music, the right tempo, the right situations in their films to add the proper music and bring so much more to the films. Taking a parody like “Saturday Night FeverXXX or the “Rocki Whore Picture Show” required not only the instrumental music that fit the film, but coming up with original song lyrics, again to avoid legal issues on copyrights, an extremely tough job, but with the musical talent that is part of the adult industry these new sounds continue to be made.

It is not only with the parodies, but in the original films like “Fighter”, “Horizon”, “The Four”, “Pirates”, “Speed” and others where dramatic music and well constructed theme music is used throughout a film to highlight a scene whether it’s a dramatic or comedy scene or a hardcore sex scene. It is a major job for a porn film just as it is for a mainstream film. What is truly amazing is that where a mainstream film may use a full orchestra of 30-40 musicians, adult films may use as many as five! But with overdubs, creativity, and being able to use “public domain” pieces of music the film directors are able to have the best possible music put into their films to make them an even better all around production.

So next time you are viewing an adult film whether it’s a parody or an original keep in mind how much work went into creating that near perfect music you are hearing and what it adds to the overall movie.
